One night when Max dresses in a wolf suit and causes havoc in the house, his mom sends him to his room. From there, Max sets sail to an island inhabited by the Wild Things, who name him king and share a wild rumpus with him. But then from far away across the world, Max smells good things to eat...and he is brought back to his room where he has been all along.   Critical Analysis- Sendak’s writing in this endearing children’s book is simple and direct. The main character, Max, is relatable and deals with anger as most kids do. The author gives us a fun look into Max’s world as his imagination runs wild.
